Reset Drag and Drop on Try Again

Drag and Drib RESET pick

Is there anyhow to add a RESET choice when creating a Drag and Drop activity. I love using the Freeform options when creating quizzes but it would be nice to accept a RESET push on Drag and Drop questions when students don't become the correct answers and to make information technology piece of cake for them to Attempt Again.

Is a Reset option something they can add together to a futurity update under the Drag and Drop options?

Hi Kimberly,

I would change your trigger on the Try Again layer from "hide this layer" to "jump to slide X" and merely accept it jump back to your base of operations layer. Make sure sure you base layer settings isWhen Revisiting: Reset to initial land.

Hope this helps!

Hullo Alexia,

I originally thought this was working great until I realized this does not work if the question is gear up to a certain number of Attempts. After clicking Endeavor Over again, the slide is set to Reset to Initial State so information technology never remembers the number of attempts made and just stays in a loop to Try Again.

Does this setting Only work if using Unlimited Attempts or is at that place something else I need to configure to Reset the answers simply however keep the slide set to a specific number of Attempts?

Hi Kimberly,

That makes sense! So I played effectually and here's what I'd do:

1. Create Variable: TryAgain (Type: Number/ Value:0)

2. On your TryAgain layer, create the post-obit trigger: Add one to TryAgain when user clicks TryAgain variable

3. On your Base layer, add the following trigger: Show layer Incorrect when user clicks the Submit button IF TryAgain is greater than or equal to ii.

Notation: You tin alter the number ii to even so many attempts you'd similar to requite the learner.

There might be a simpler fashion to accomplish this, but I went ahead and attached an example. Good luck!

Alexia, I'thousand and then sorry simply still running into glitches on this on after doing more testing on this. Hither is what I discovered:

I want to allow students ii attempts to get the right respond - so in essence they should simply be able to click the Try Again button 1 time which takes them to attempt two. If I ready the TryAgain value to two for the number of attempts, it then let's them click Endeavour Again two times (which now allows 3 attempts). So I ended up setting the value on Step iii to Equal/Greater than 1.

In addition, we are also telling the system to testify the Incorrect Layer subsequently the Variable reaches the gear up value, which in my example, is i. Simply, when testing this,  if I select the right answers on the second attempt, information technology all the same displays the Incorrect layer considering I clicked Try Again 1 time, as set in the #3 condition. Shouldn't it first look at whether the answers are correct before being overridden by the variable?

I'm very perplexed on this one. It would be great if  at that place was some fashion we could add together a RESET button in a future release for Drag and Drop activities which allows users to set the draggable items back to their original position, if so desired.

Howdy Kimberly,

Do you have an updated copy of your file hither to share? The variable element should allow the user to answer correctly and see the "right" layer and then I suspect something is off in terms of trigger guild or placement which can exist difficult to diagnose without seeing it.

Hi Ashley, I copied the slide in question to a separate projection since my main project is very large. I accept this ready to allow the user ii attempts (so the value in step 3 to a higher place is set to Equal or Greater than 1). The Variable option works GREAT if you get the answer wrong on the second effort, merely if you get the answers correct on the second endeavor, information technology still shows the Incorrect feedback layer.

Thanks so much for looking at this!

Howdy Kimberly,

You'll want to look at putting that trigger on your try once again layer based on when the timeline starts vs. when the user clicks the "submit" push button. That'll allow it to show the "incorrect" layer from the try again on their 2d try and then they'll exist able to meet the correct layer if they reply correctly. Right now your trigger tracking the variable is overriding the built in functionality of the right or incorrect layers.

Thanks then much Ashley,
This finally seems to exist working after testing several times!

I Actually struggle using Variables but most of these made sense to me until you had me change this one to "When Timeline Starts" versus when "clicking the Try Again" button. What makes the difference here?  Trying to wrap my head effectually these!

Thanks once more to everyone for all of your help with this!

Howdy Kimberly!

Ashley is out of the office today, and then I'm trying to catch up on your chat here.

I took a wait at your file and I'm bold you've now got it to look something like the attached.

The left was your original file and the right is the updated ane attached.

Your story was choosing to go to the Wrong Layer when Try Again had already been reached. This is why yous could non become to the Correct layer if correct. Y'all were overriding the built-in settings.

By moving it to the Endeavor Again Layer, this would eliminate this override. You alter it to when the timeline starts because yous practise not have a Submit button on this layer.

I hope that makes a chip more sense?! It tin can be disruptive. I talk out loud when needed to help it brand sense.

How-do-you-do,

I've tried following the steps listed in this forum every bit well as another on the same topic, and I tin can't seem to go my project to work correctly. I'd similar to requite the learner two tries on this drag & drop question (essentially bringing them to the "Endeavor Again" layer after 1 endeavor and and then to the "Wrong" layer after the 2d attempt), and I'd like the slide to Reset to Initial Land in betwixt these attempts so that the draggables all go back to their initial positions. I've attached my slide for reference, is anyone able to help me out with figuring out what I'm doing wrong?

Any assistance is profoundly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hullo Gracie, all y'all accept to do is modify the gild of the push button triggers on your Try Again layer.

You have it set up so that when the user clicks the Try again push, it jumps to ane.1 before the trigger to increment the count for Q3 is executed so this ways the number is never increased.

Just move the add trigger so that it comes before the jump trigger and it should work.

You are a hero Nancy! I was trying to practise this and could not for the life of me effigy out why it was non working. Moving the triggers was the fix! I appreciate it!

I am having a similar issue, and have come upward with a workaround for free class drag and drop (inside a question banking company), but have not been able to reset to original state using a question bank.  Is there a manner to unmarried out (jump to) a particular quiz question slide within a question banking concern to essentially go the question to reset to its original state?  I will post the scenario momentarily in example some may find the kickoff piece of work around useful.

Here is the .story file (built in Storyline2).  Please let me know if information technology did not come through right, every bit this is my first posting and I am a fleck of a noob with it.  Delight forgive the stripped down version, but it seems to work fine...  Question 2 is where I desire the word to go back to the bank after clicking attempt once again...  I hope Question 1 might help others too (make sure to check Allow only one detail in each drop target from the Drag&Drop options for it to work).  I might just rebuild the word banks to drag and drop.  if I deceit become word banking company to acquit...

Hither is another fashion to return dragged objects to the original starting point for multiple retry attempts without having to use a variable:

1. place an add motion animation onto each elevate object.

2. set the commencement and end points to the same point (when the drag object is in its original spot)

3. fix duration to 00.10

4. on the Try Again layer - and  on the Try Over again push fix a new trigger for each of the drag objects. (Move 'object' on LineMotionPath1 when the user clicks Attempt Again push

and that'south all you need to practise! :)

thanks Gerry
